Maroubra BeachWe stayed with our family friend Michelle at her place on Maroubra Beach, near Sydney. |

YularaWe flew to Alice Springs and then made the long drive through the desert to the Yulara resort near Uluru (Ayers Rock), and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). |

Ellis BeachWe stayed in a bungalow on the beach near Cairns on the rainforest northeast coast of Australia. |
KurandaWe took a train up into the rainforest town of Kuranda, visited the touristy sites, and then took Sky Rail back down to Cairns. |
Day 10 |
Great Barrier ReefNo trip to Australia is complete without snorkeling and scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef. We took a catamaran day trip out to Michaelmas Cay. |

Ballooning over Christchurch

Arthur's PassAfter our balloon flight in Christchurch, we made the 3.5 hour drive across New Zealand through the Southern Alps at Arthur's Pass. |
Day 13 |
New Zealand West CoastAnother day of driving — this time from Greymouth up to North end of the South Island where we caught the ferry over to Wellington on the North Island. |
Day 15 |
Geothermal AreasOn the North Island between Taupo and Rotorua there are several geothermal areas, and nearby volcanoes. |
Day 16 |
HobbitonWe visited the Hobbiton set from the Lord of the Rings movies in Matamata. |
